Advanced Cross-Braced Design

The Half Hitch features a complex structure of interlocking members designed to convert bending and twisting loads into tension and compression loads — which effectively makes the assembly dead to vibration. This approach allows lighter, thinner structural members to be used. Moreover, the largest components incorporate lightening pockets. Overall, the Half Hitch (at only 5.3 pounds) combines high rigidity with low weight — while giving excellent tripod clearance. |

Compare the Proportions How many competing mounts have the extensive bracing of the Half Hitch? Like a stalwart pyramid, the Half Hitch tapers from bottom to top, providing a solid foundation for your scope. When you look at some other mounts, do you see narrow zones in the middle or long sections without substantial reinforcement? |

When carrying an 80 to 90 mm refractor or a 6" SCT, the Half Hitch damps vibration instantaneously — only slightly longer for a 102 mm refractor or C-8. Focusing and tracking are easily performed without exciting any vibration at all. This is optimized grab 'n go. The Half Hitch will attach to any tripod having a 3/8-16 stud or screw and flat surface. The Half Hitch's centerline load positioning applies less stress to the tripod than does the outboard load position of many other mounts. |
