Caliper Disc Altitude Brake Makes Eyepiece Changes Fast and Easy
|
Need to change the eyepiece? The Half Hitch's caliper disc altitude brake will accurately and securely hold your telescope's position during the changeover. Since a disc brake does not apply torque to the axle or bearings, the telescope will not be turned inadvertently by braking. The Half Hitch's adjustable zenith stop prevents your telescope from accidentally bumping the tripod or mount when turned to the zenith. The horizon stop prevents accidental bumps in the other direction. |

Do I Have To Rebalance After Every Eyepiece Change? Of course not! Unless you have an eyepiece that is dramatically different in weight from your others, just set the balance for a middleweight eyepiece. Then you will likely hardly notice the modest shifts in balance. You can also use Tele Vue's weighted 1¼ to 2 inch eyepiece adapter to equalize the differences in weight between your 1¼ inch and 2 inch eyepieces. The Half Hitch's drive system has a generous positive grip that will overcome moderate imbalance and a bit of tuning friction from the caliper brake. In fact, one can usually change out 1¼ inch eyepieces without applying additional braking. The caliper disc brake provides a convenient means of momentarily dealing with the extreme imbalance that occurs when changing out heavy eyepieces. The caliper disc brake should not be confused with a clutch or a drive lock. The Half Hitch's drive system is always engaged and has no clutches to adjust. |

| The altitude brake is a true caliper disc brake. The caliper squeezes the disc from both sides. The braking action is extremely uniform and finely adjustable — making the caliper brake a very effective "drag control" system that can be adjusted without using a tool. |
